Stage set for Dominican Hospital Guild's Fashion Show at the Cocanut Grove, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, California, November 21, 2008
Fashion Show Stage Set
Last summer and fall I planned out these five paintings which made up the
stage set for Dominican Hospital Foundation Guild's annual fashion
show. This event was held at the Cocoanut Grove, at the Santa Cruz
Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, California. I have included a slide show
below showing the stages of the paintings being made, and finally the
fashion show. The models walking down the runway give the paintings the
scale they were planned for, as if they are walking down Pacific Avenue
in downtown Santa Cruz. The way the stage lights were changing each
time a different retail store, and designer, were introduced gave the
panels a new element and level of excitement.
Colorful Cupboards
A few years ago, I painted and collaged my
kitchen cupboards over several months creating a unique artsy kitchen.
I was inspired by a magazine article I read about a woman artist who
painted her cupboards, floors, and walls. Our cupboards were just
begging for me to cover up their dingy white paint. I used acrylic
paints and collaged the big butterfly and dragonfly from a poster. The
final coat is several layers of a diamond finish sealer.

Nathan's Mural
My friend's John and Darcy asked me to paint a mural on their little boy's bedroom wall. They are big sports fans and Nathan loves to play golf. So I took several photographs of him swinging his little clubs. He was only about three years old when I did this.

Photography
Capturing moments in time with the medium of photography has been a longtime love of mine. I remember my first class in high school shooting black and white images of my life. In college I would have majored in photography had it not been for my extreme skin reactions to the chemicals used in printing. Today I use my Canon digital Rebel to capture images from portraits to weddings, bar mitzvahs, and artwork.
